AAF Opposes Domain Changes
Despite significant backlash from the advertising and business communities, the Internet Corporations for Assigned Names and Numbers is moving forward with its plan to allow virtually an unlimited amount of new Top-Level Domains. Top-Level Domains are the part of the web address to the right of the dot (i.e., .com, .org, .gov). In a statement to ICANN, AAF President Edmund Datri said this proposal is a “potentially devastating problem for which the only solution may be abandonment.” As far back as December 2008, AAF warned ICANN that their proposal could potentially reduce eCommerce, increase cyber-fraud, and create “insecurity in the Internet infrastructure.” According to their website, ICANN said the change will allow entrepreneurs, businesses, governments, and communities to apply a Top-Level domain of their choosing.
