Yes, the AAF Tulsa is for you.

By our very nature, people in this business aren’t joiners. We don’t go with the flow. We don’t join hands and sing. If we did, we’d all be the doctors and accountants our parents wanted us to be (assuming we could handle the math). No, we had to be different. But that doesn’t mean we have to go it alone. There is an organization just for you. Made up of people just like you. It’s the AAF Tulsa. And it’s a good way for you to advance your career, make new acquaintances, help strengthen the advertising community, and simply get a nice discount on your ADDY entries.

No punch line here. People from all walks of industry life are able to swap business cards and horror stories. And usually when they’re through, they’ve learned something more about each other and the business. And more importantly, they’ve made a valuable contact right here in the city. (Just remember it’s proper etiquette to wait two days before exploiting your valuable new contact.)

Learn from advertising pros from around the country.

The program meetings are not just an excuse to meet and greet, it’s an occasion to learn. It’s like a trade pub come to life. You can learn more about radio, account planning, newspaper, printing, outdoor, the Internet, new business, successful campaigns and much more, from specialists in their respective fields. All without having to do any tedious reading.

Why just complain about the ADDY show when you can help screw it up?

We kid. But you ask three different people about last year’s ADDYs and you’ll get three different “if onlys”. If only the judges read Czechoslovakian. If only there were a category for best two-color, embossed hang tag. If only I remembered anything after the cocktail hour. Chances are you have a few of your own. Join and you can actually voice your opinions where they’ll make a difference. And if you’re not into ideology, perhaps money is your thing. You’ll be happy to know ADDY entries are considerably cheaper for members than nonmembers.

Help lure unsuspecting youngsters into the business.

The more inexperienced young people we funnel into the industry, the smarter we all look in comparison. That’s one of the reasons why the AAF Tulsa funds scholarships for advertising students to TU, OSU, ORU, NSU, Langston and OSU-Okmulgee. Not only that, we provide students at these schools with a vital connection to the “real world” of advertising. So when they come looking for a job, they’ll know exactly what it is a traffic manager does.

The Tulsa advertising industry is only as strong as its people.
